Wall-mounted systems with concealed supports. Clean architectural lines for modern commercial entrances.

Cantilever Canopies

Overview

About Cantilever Canopies

Cantilever canopies are wall-mounted commercial aluminum canopy systems that project outward from a building facade without visible columns or ground supports. The result is a clean, modern entrance that provides weather protection while maintaining an unobstructed walkway below.

As a commercial aluminum canopy manufacturer with over 40 years of fabrication experience, Jackson Williams engineers every cantilever canopy system from scratch. We don't sell catalog products — each system is designed around your building's structural capacity, projection requirements, and architectural intent.

Our cantilever canopies are fabricated from 6063-T6 aluminum extrusions in our 30,000 SF North Carolina facility. Every system ships with stamped structural engineering drawings from a licensed Professional Engineer, and we handle the full scope from shop drawings through installation across the Southeast.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How far can a cantilever canopy project from the building?

Standard cantilever canopy projections range from 3 to 5 feet. Projections beyond 5 feet typically require supplemental support — either hanger rods from above or columns below. The maximum projection depends on your building's structural capacity, the canopy's dead load, and local wind and snow load requirements. Our engineering team will evaluate your specific conditions during the design phase.

What's the difference between a cantilever canopy and a hanger rod canopy?

A cantilever canopy is supported entirely by concealed brackets anchored into the building wall — there are no visible supports. A hanger rod canopy is suspended from the building structure above using 304 stainless steel threaded rod with steel attachment points, all powder-coated to match. Cantilever systems offer a cleaner, more modern look, while hanger rod systems can span larger projections and carry heavier loads. Many projects use both: cantilever at the main entrance for aesthetics, hanger rod along the building perimeter where larger coverage is needed.

Do you provide engineering and shop drawings for cantilever canopies?

Every cantilever canopy project includes full shop drawings with all the details needed for installation. We handle the install on projects within our territory, and for projects outside our region, we ship fabricated units with detailed shop drawings so your team can install. Stamped structural engineering drawings from a licensed PE are available upon request for an additional charge — required by most building departments for permit approval.
