Protective walkway covers (also called walkway canopies) are freestanding or column-supported commercial aluminum structures. The columns carry the load, so the cover can run along a facade, between buildings, or away from a wall — spans wall-mounted canopies can't handle. Every system is engineered for wind and snow loads, ADA clearance, and coordination with drainage, lighting, and utilities on site.
Jackson Williams, a 40-year manufacturer since 1984, fabricates in Shelby, NC and installs protective walkway covers across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. For projects outside that territory, contact our estimating team — we do not offer a JW Direct ship-only path for walkway covers.

Engineering and drawings
Every protective walkway cover includes PE-stamped structural drawings and custom shop drawings. Shop drawings include elevations for architect approval. Stamps are part of the system — not an add-on charge.

How far can a walkway canopy span between columns?
Up to 20 feet clear between columns. Custom box beams or I-beams handle wider spans. Most commercial walkways need 8 to 12 feet of clear width.
Do protective walkway covers come with stamped drawings?
Yes. PE-stamped structural drawings come with every system, along with custom shop drawings.
