About Walkway & Patio Covers
Walkway canopies and patio covers are freestanding or column-supported commercial aluminum structures designed to provide continuous weather protection along building perimeters, between buildings, and over outdoor gathering spaces. Unlike wall-mounted canopy systems, walkway covers use their own structural columns — giving architects and GCs complete flexibility in placement and configuration.
As a walkway canopy manufacturer with four decades of fabrication experience, Jackson Williams designs these systems for the real-world conditions commercial projects demand: high wind loads, snow loads, ADA clearance requirements, and the need to integrate with existing site infrastructure like drainage, lighting, and utilities.
Our walkway covers span up to 20 feet clear between columns using aluminum or steel beam systems. Every project includes full structural engineering with stamped PE drawings, custom shop drawings, and — for projects in the Southeast — our own installation crews. For projects outside our installation territory, we ship complete systems with detailed erection drawings for your local contractor.

How wide can a walkway canopy span without intermediate columns?
Our standard walkway canopy systems span up to 20 feet clear between columns. For wider spans, we engineer custom beam systems (box beams or I-beams) that can bridge greater distances depending on the load requirements. Most commercial walkway applications require 8 to 12 feet of clear width, which is well within our standard capability. Our engineers will specify the optimal column spacing based on your span, local wind/snow loads, and the decking system selected.
Can walkway covers be designed to match existing building architecture?
Absolutely — that's the advantage of custom fabrication over catalog products. We match fascia profiles, beam shapes, column styles, and finish colors to your building's existing architectural language. Finishes are available in virtually any custom color, and we can replicate specific RAL or Benjamin Moore colors to match existing building elements. Our shop drawing process includes elevation views so the architect can approve the aesthetic before fabrication begins.
Do you install walkway canopies outside of North Carolina?
We provide full-service walkway canopy installation across the Southeast — North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Maryland, and West Virginia. For projects outside our installation territory, we fabricate and ship complete systems with detailed erection drawings and installation support. We've shipped walkway cover systems to projects in over 23 states.
